Healthier Holiday Baking: Chocolate Loaf Cake!

It’s been way too long since either of us were able to use a proper kitchen. Almost seven months, by my count. Seven months of relying on cafeteria food, pre-made meals, Starbucks breakfasts, and instant coffee. It was the price we had to pay to live out our adventures- moving from place to place every few months, racing…

Mind-Blowing Bakery-Style Blueberry Lemon Muffins

Homemade baked goods are treasures, but when it comes to the classic muffin, bakeries tend to have us beat. Sure, you might pull a squat little bread out of your oven and it will be adorable to look at and tasty to chew, but it probably doesn’t have that oomph on top that makes a blueberry…

Precious Pastels – Springing Back into the Cookie Game

It had been a while since our last batch of cookies together and something just felt a little off about that. So yesterday we got to shaking off the dust on our baking sheets and mixing bowls (dust is not, after all, one of our secret ingredients).  Spring is fast approaching us and Easter faster still, and we…

Making the Perfect Almond Joy Cookies

It is not just for nostalgia’s sake that I love these cookies. You guys, these are seriously so delicious and tropically sumptuous I could just about eat them every day, or at least once a week after a good workout 😉 Give them a go!

Yo Ho and a Bottle of Rum (Balls)

What could possibly be a more festive treat than chocolate and liquor combined?! Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Rum balls have been on our Food Bucket List for a long time, so this past weekend we picked out the cheapest dark rum we could find and gave it our best shot. And wow, did it work! Soft,…

Jazzy Jambalaya!

The holy mother of it all, and my favorite meal of all time, was jambalaya, the delicious, nutritious, flexible one-pot meal that is so native to Louisiana it actually pre-dates the great Acadian migration.

Jambalaya is one of those meals that you can make however you want. The main components are a tomato-rice base, vegetables, and meats. This is my personal recipe that is super easy, composed of cheap staples, and always goes over ridiculously well with roommates and friends

Chocolate Orange Christmas Cookies!

I wanted to try incorporating this signature flavor into a new Christmas cookie, and most importantly, I wanted it to be simple. The end result was a winner on all counts – rich and chocolatey but fresh and zingy and ready within a few minutes (seriously).

Holly Jolly Tartlets!

Don’t get me wrong – we love baking. Clearly. But this weekend when our normal baking time rolled around, we were itching to try something a little different, something a little out of the usual realm of combining flour, sugar, butter, and eggs to achieve some variable consistency that we then put in the oven…

Okonomiyaki!

As promised, here is our recipe for okonomiyaki, a delicious savoury Japanese pancake. The mouthwatering scent of grilled okonomiyaki takes me back to first year, when Reina first introduced us to this popular Japanese delicacy. Kelly, Reina and I bonded over this dish, spending many a cozy night in Kelly’s warm, orange kitchen as bitter winter winds raged…

Orange Cranberry Muffins!

Breakfast with my father was a big deal. Every Saturday morning he would take either my sister or me out to breakfast somewhere, and in the warmer months this was accompanied by a long bike ride along any stretch of bucolic Pennsylvania trail.  When I was very little, I always ordered chocolate chip pancakes and a hot…
