Grooves Club 1

What a blessing it is to be alive today in this magical age of digital music where one can hear a song on a TV show, get a recommendation from a friend, or have an old, long-consciously-forgotten earworm wriggle into the forefront of one’s mind and then listen to them all right away. We don’t have to hunt down the cassette and purchase a whole host of tracks we may not be interested in (though the option remains), nor do we have to wait in vain to see if it will be played with the top 40 tracks on the three AM radio stations of yore. Think about it – there is just so much music at our fingertips these days, demanding to be discovered.

There are plenty of bands for whom we are listen-to-the-whole-album kind of girls, but a fresh and varied playlist filled with songs from different sources, clashing voices, and disparate genres can be just as satisfying – like a lovingly cultivated personal soundtrack for the week/month/year, depending on the songs’ staying power.

With all of this in mind, we are always looking for new tunes. Here’s what has been circulating on my iPod near-constantly for the past few weeks. What have you been listening to? We’d be forever grateful if you directed us to our next favorite song. It keeps us young 😉

Pretty Pimpin’ – Kurt Vile

“I woke up this morning, didn’t recognize the boy in the mirror”

Past Lives –  BØRNS

Swear to the moon, the stars, the sons, and the daughters – our love is deeper than the oceans of water”

Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) – The Beatles

“And when I awoke I was alone, this bird had flown. So I lit a fire, isn’t it good Norwegian wood?”

Better Than That – Marina and the Diamonds

“They all say she’s got low self esteem, so why’s she looking like a cat who got the cream?”

Ghosts – BANNERS

Run towards the stars, can’t make them shine. But you know I’ll try”

Boy Problems – Carly Rae Jepsen

“It could be the perfect day – he’ll just make it rain anyway. I’m so tired of hearing all your boy problems”
