David’s Tea Infuser and Drip and Sip
At heart, Kelly and I are impatient eight-year-olds, so naturally we couldn’t possibly wait until Christmas to open our first presents. Ever since our friend Reina visited us, two little tantalizingly wrapped red boxes have been taunting us from underneath the tree, positively begging to be opened (honestly, I’m surprised we lasted this long). So this week we opened Reina’s presents… 21 days early. Proving once again just how thoughtful she is, she got us extremely appropriately caffeine-related gifts: a gorgeous gold and teal tea infuser from David’s Tea, and a wonderfully useful Drip and Sip (a cutesy version of a pour-over coffee filter). Our French Press just broke in an accident that was both tragic and unavoidable, so we are beyond grateful for a new way to indulge our caffeine cravings, and we are loving how fast yet delicious the pour-over method is turning out to be.
The Hunger Games – Mockingjay Part II
Watching these movies has become a yearly tradition for us, and on Wednesday we all headed down to the cineplex for the grand finale. Man, was it stressful. Having read the books (albeit a very long time ago), we knew what to expect in this movie, but this foresight was not enough to prepare us for the emotional toll of watching some of the events unfold on the big screen. Despite the fact that we spent the entire second half of the movie trying not to cry, the movie was fantastic – beautifully filmed, touchingly written, and faithful to the story. These movies always make us grapple with thoughts about society and violence and the senselessness of it all a lot more than we would expect from a blockbuster adaptation of a YA book, and for this we are grateful.
Michael Bublé’s Christmas Album
This masterpiece has pretty much been playing on a loop in our apartment since about halfway through November when our decorations went up (we already mentioned that we are impatient eight-year-olds, right?) We are grateful and relieved that December has officially arrived because now absolutely nobody can fault us for being unabashedly in the spirit constantly.
Chocolate Orange Christmas Cookies!
Confession: Sam and I are both crazy cookie ladies. Seriously, we whip up a couple of batches a week, just because, and when you make cookies as often as we do you can’t help but experiment with new combinations. I think this new chocolate orange recipe is my favorite confection we’ve created so far, perfectly capturing the signature flavors of those iconic, foil-wrapped chocolate orange Christmas treats in a delicious, easy cookie. We will be sharing this recipe soon!
